From the Desk

In just a month The APTC has been featured by three National Media Outlets. This is a cost effective way for us to quickly disseminate our vision and mission to a greater audience. We, at The APTC, believe innovation and creativity are the pathway to a vibrant future. This is clear in the services we provide to our Builders and the public at large. Instead of spending 100's of thousands of dollars to scout and map the APT, we relied on the talents of our ever growing community. In lieu of providing expensive paper map sets we have been releasing it for free to the public. We combine the best professionals and technology to create a user experience that is keeping with the times and is of no financial burden to its users. We seek to organize our talents by the creation of our Builders/Membership Portal and online community on social media. Our resource as a grassroots organization is our community. We care about the Trail because we care about People. They are one in the same.
WE ARE THE APT.
This is part of our greater contribution to trail inclusivity. We make it easy and free for everyone to participate. Anyone who wants to recreate on the APT can use our interactive map and app on the website and at Hiiker.com. Those who want paper maps can utilize any of our free sources and print at their neighborhood library. Check with your local library to see if they do or will provide free printing of APT Maps for those in need. It is America's Trail and we want to make sure everyone has an opportunity to enjoy it.
Inclusivity requires trail accessibility.
This is why The APTC seeks to connect communities and advocate for walkable cities in which the trail passes. There are many campaigns to encourage people to go outside. With a growing interest in the great outdoors comes the challenge of protecting our historic and natural treasures. How do we approach the future with our already crowded trails and National Parks? I understand the positivity expressed in encouraging people to go outside but to what end and where to? We believe it is by creating more protected spaces for recreation. We have a great responsibility to our people, to flora, and to our fauna. You already know what I am going to say next.

Thoughts from the Trail

"I don't backpack because it's fun. It doesn't matter if there are views. It's happening. Like breathing." Rue

From the Team

CT APT

Our first hike on what we are planning to be the CT section of the APT has happened. We will be adding portions to our interactive map as we finish finalizing each section. Check out some of the views from Section 1 in Cornwall CT.

APT Trail Magic

Suzanne will be out at the AT trailhead on the CT/NY border with some snacks, so watch our social media for updates and be sure to stop by and grab a sticker and tell your friends on trail in the area to watch of us.

Tim McGrath

Tim McGrath is a Geographer and Software Engineering Manager with experience from the U.S. Geological Survey, Microsoft Mapping, Nokia/HERE Maps, and others. He is managing the interactive map.
If you are a hiker/trail runner with trail stories to share about the beautiful, challenging, gruesome parts existing in a female body in the outdoors - here is your chance to share your experience. Click the button for more information on longtime APT friend Christine Reed's latest project.
