Hello, I got back from hiking part of the continental divide in Wyoming and Montana. I wanted to ask about the APT trail map. There seems to be two pathways up the east coast, one literally on the coast and one a little inside – are they both options or is one the official route?

I am thinking about hiking the NM section of the APT this year. I have sent questions sent to Rue, but maybe member here can help me out.
1) In the eastern part of NM the route goes onto DOD land. Are hikers allowed on DOD property every place that the route passes through?
