Known as the Land of Enchantment, the trail crosses high desert until descending into the Gila River Canyon. This is home to the Gila Wilderness and Aldo Leopold, the first designated wilderness in America. The APT brings you right past the ancient Gila Cliff Dwellings of the Mongollon People. The APT will share tread with The Grand Enchantment Trail and The Continental Divide Trail as more routes are scouted.
Proposed Trail
This trek follows the Gila River in the west to the Texas Border in the east near El Paso.
