Building a Trail

Apr. 17, 2023

The preserve I volunteer at is breaking ground on a new trail, and I had the opportunity to be part of the work party on day one. Watching the path start with just a few markers to an actual trail by the end of the day was really thrilling. I’ve walked hundreds of miles on Connecticuts trails but I’ve never seen how they are made.

I say it a lot, and I’m about to say it again, if you have the chance to volunteer at a local trail DO IT!

I am also watching the American Perimeter Trail move into a new stage…the one where we get to look at maps and decide where we want to go hike! It is mind blowing that just a year ago Rue was still walking around the country and this moment seemed so far in the future.

Can it get more exciting?? Yes it can! We are currently reviewing maps generously shared with us by a CT trail org to see how we can move the APT through CT. We will hopefully have some plans together this summer to get out and start walking the path that will be the CT APT!

It may seem a little quiet right now, but know that we are working feverishly to create something beautiful and lasting, and we cannot wait to share it with you.

See you on the trail….. Suzanne
